Aztec History of Mexico City - AZTEC / MEXICA ROOTS OF MEXICO CITY

This is a travel guide infused with Aztec (Mexica) empire history so that you can get the most out of your visit to the incredible, Mexico City (CDMX). Free Mexico City PDF Travel Guide link below, no sign up required. We start by explaining how the city was founded over two islands in the middle of Lake Texcoco and why the Mexica choose that spot. For 200 years the Aztec empire thrived. But just as the prophecy of the return of the god, Quezalcoatl told, in the year “one reed” in the Aztec calendar men arrived from the east and the downfall of the empire was complete in only two short years. The Spanish conquistadors had arrived and changed Mexico and Central America forever. But how where they able to take down such a fierce and highly advanced people? We will get into that too! Visit the site where the towering pyramids once stood, in the center of the city at the Templo Mayor, in the Zocalo. Imagine the immense Chapultepec park as a site for noble Mexica to retreat. And see what remains of the ancient lake and floating gardens in Xochimilco. It is so much more than just a fun party spot! This is part I of our CDMX Travel Guide series. Next time, join us for a more touristy guide focusing on other highlights to see, retrace the footsteps of Frida Kahlo. Indulge in Mexican culinary delights and find out where to stay and how to get around. We will even take a few day trips to Puebla and Teotihuacan pyramids! Stay tuned! Disclaimer: I hope you enjoy the information I have put together. I am not an historian just a person with an interest. I did do my best to research the factuality of the information presented, but it is intended for entertainment purposes, not as an historic resource. *The decimation of the indigenous population of Central America was in the 90-96% range. Population decline in Meso America during the 100 years after the arrival of the Spanish varies but sources agree that the population was over 30 million and fell to a population of somewhere between 1 to 3 million. Further Information: The cactus (Opuntia ficus-indica), full of its fruits, called nōchtli in Nahuatl, represents the island of Tenochtitlan. To the Mexicans, the snake represented wisdom, and it had strong connotations with the god Quetzalcoatl. Cheers! Danielle and Hairo Monteverde cloud forest is found at an altitude range of 4,000 to 6220 feet above sea level. Temperatures range from the 50s to the 70s with an average temperature around 64°F. There is also always a strong wind and a chill in the air so if you brought a long sleeve shirt or sweater and long pants you will want to wear them while you’re visiting this area. The wise advice to layer your clothing is especially good advice here as you will probably be doing lots of trekking so once you build up a sweat you can peel down a layer or two until you are comfortable again.
